Mitchell Bridge Kayak and Canoe Access

Henry County Parks and Recreation provides easy access for paddlers to the Smith River. This public river access point is located in Ridgeway, VA, and is the last public access in Henry County going south on the river. Boaters can use this as a take-out or they can put in here and take out at an access in North Carolina. Paddlers should be aware that the entrance ramp is rustic and that water levels are subject to rapid change due to releases from Philpott Dam. Water temperature is cold year-round. Paddlers should check USGS gauges, and please call for the water release schedule.​
