“RoCo is such an incredible spot for outdoor enthusiasts. I hope this guide empowers people to try a new trail,” said Abby Draut, Trails Coordinator for Piedmont Legacy Trails. “From tourism professionals to local volunteers, we worked with people who know these trails best to make sure these guides truly represent the heart of each county.”

The guides are part of a broader mission led by Piedmont Legacy Trails to connect people to nature, promote regional trail destinations, and give voice to trail interests across the Piedmont Triad. The 12-county collective includes Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Yadkin, Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Davie, Davidson, Randolph, and Montgomery Counties.

Spotlight: Rockingham County

Known as an outdoor lover’s paradise, Rockingham County offers a rich blend of scenic trails, rolling hills, historic sites, and water access. From the Chinqua-Penn Walking Trail to the tranquil views at Lake Reidsville, the new guide makes it easier than ever to explore why RoCo rocks.

AllTrails Partnership Enhances Trail Access

In an effort to bridge the gap between trail managers and trail users, Piedmont Legacy Trails is also proud to launch a new partnership with AllTrails, the world’s most-used trail app. Through this collaboration, Piedmont’s trail network will now feature a user-friendly, interactive regional trail map. Users can access free AllTrails content via the trail guides to improve wayfinding, trail safety, and communication between communities and trail systems.

About Piedmont Legacy Trails

Piedmont Legacy Trails is the trails collective in the Piedmont Triad whose primary goal is to highlight our natural places, connect trail efforts, and give voice to regional trail interests for the benefit of our communities. A partnership between Piedmont Land Conservancy and the Piedmont Triad Regional Council, the initiative aims to brand the Piedmont as a trails destination in North Carolina.

When people get outside and experience nature, they are healthier, happier, and more likely to protect the places they love. Trails improve lives, support local economies, and strengthen our connection to the land, and to one another.
